Botswana's USD 50 Billion Smart City Vision Gains Momentum Through Global Partnerships
In a defining moment for Botswana's economic future, Zotus City Development Group (ZCDG) signed a series of landmark Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) at the Pula Global Expo 2025, signaling the beginning of an unprecedented era of investment, innovation, and sustainable development for the nation.
The signing ceremony, held under the patronage of H.E. President Advocate Duma Boko, brought together key stakeholders including the Ghanzi District Council, the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), and international partners committed to transforming the Kalahari into a global hub for smart city innovation.
The ceremonial Memorandum of Understanding marks a significant step in advancing the formal land allocation process for the approximately 4,000 hectare site at Junction 44 in Ghanzi, where Zotus City is being planned as a beacon of sustainable urban development. This ceremonial step does not constitute a completed legal land transfer; it supports and precedes the formal land allocation process, which remains subject to applicable approvals and final project documentation. The agreement demonstrates strong collaboration between local government and private sector partners.
Key highlights of the agreements include: • Ceremonial Memorandum of Understanding with Ghanzi District Council supporting the formal land allocation process • Strategic Partnership Agreement with BITC for investment facilitation • Commitment to sustainable development practices aligned with Botswana's Vision 2036 • Framework for international investor engagement and project financing
This milestone reinforces Zotus City's position as one of Africa's most ambitious urban development projects, with a projected investment value of USD 50 billion over the next two decades.
